Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

By Tamara Paetsch

So what exactly is plant-based eating and what’s the hype? Plant-based eating means some or all animal products that a person eats are replaced by plant foods! Plant-based eating has been receiving a lot of attention lately, and for good reason!

1. Lower Risk Of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure).

Plant-based eating means animal proteins are displaced by plant-based alternatives like tofu, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Eating more plant foods boosts dietary fiber and phytonutrients, which have been shown to decrease risk of chronic diseases.

2. Lower Environmental Impact.

Plant-based protein is more sustainable to produce than animal protein; greenhouse gas emissions and water usage are significantly lower when producing plant foods.

3. A Cheaper Monthly Grocery Bill.

Plant-based proteins, like lentils, are usually less expensive than animal proteins, especially if you are buying plant-foods closest to their natural form (ex. buying tofu instead of tofu-dogs).
