Intuitive Eating
Join us on a journey of self-discovery! We’re exploring the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating created by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. In the process, we’ll learn to listen to our bodies, trust our internal hunger and fullness cues, enjoy all types of foods, and release the pressures of diet culture!
Intuitive eating is a mind body approach that teaches us to tune in to our physical and psychological needs.
It does not involve:Â
x calorie counting x good vs. bad foods x numbers on the scale x diets of any kind
There is no failing, because we know our bodies best. By focusing on the eating experience – taking pleasure in choosing what to eat, and savouring every bite – we can achieve satisfaction at mealtimes
The Principles of Intuitive Eating
The intuitive eating journey can be challenging, and you may find you need more support. If you need more guidance or have food questions, email our Nutritionist at Nutrition.UBCOFood@ubc.ca.

3. Make peace with food
It’s about self-care, not self-control. Focus on how food makes you feel!

4. Challenge the food police
Say no to societal “rules” around food that lead to restriction, deprivation, guilt and judgment.

5. Find the satisfaction factor
Find the pleasure in eating what you really want to help you feel satisfied and content!

6. Feel your fullness
Listen to your body for signals that tell you that you’re no longer hungry.

7. Be kind with your emotions
Find kind ways to comfort, nurture, distract and resolve your big feelings.

8. Respect your body
Respect your body so you can feel good about who you are. All bodies deserve dignity.

9. Movement: Feel the difference
Move your body to stay energized, grounded and strong. How does it feel to move your body?

10. Practice gentle nutrition
Make food choices that honour your health and your taste buds.
