Scholar’s is UBCO Food Services’ catering company, specializing in delivery and event catering on campus.
We offer everything from casual meeting fairs to barbecues and family-style meals, as well as buffets, canapés and plated meals.Â
No matter how large or small your group, we will work with you to create a delicious menu that suits your budget and diners’ dietary needs, while delivering delicious meals straight to you, anywhere on campus.Â

By choosing Scholar’s Catering for you meeting, training session, seminar, event or staff party, you are directly supporting UBC’s student experience!
No event is too big or too small. Whether you’re looking for light refreshments like coffee and pastries, a sandwich buffet to for a training session, or a buffet for an evening event (or anything in between), Scholar’s will work with you to create the perfect menu.
- Internal (UBCO) clients: Let us know where your event is being held.
- External clients: First step is to book your space. Choose from meeting rooms, conference spaces, theatres, atriums or courtyards. Our friends at Conferences and Accommodations will help you with this process. Peruse our venue options here, or reach out directly to their team at conferences.ubco@ubc.ca. They can also answer any questions you may have about:
- transit to campus
- parking
- equipment rentals, and
- overnight accommodations (if that’s something your group needs)

Venues
The Sunroom in the Admin Building is a large room with windows on all sides. This room is perfect for large dinner parties or receptions. It has a patio attached for any BBQ events and has its own entrance. It can hold 220 people for meals, using 20 rounds of 8 with additional rectangular tables. It can hold up to 300 people with the addition of the Sunshine dining room seating area. Only available from May to August!

Hosting a guest speaker or a screening event? Scholar’s can deliver to any lecture hall on campus. As always, we’ll return to clean up afterwards.

- The Ballroom: Located on the second floor of the University Centre, the Ballroom offers approximately 3,000 square feet of multipurpose space, ideal for banquets, conferences, receptions, lectures, small trade show or other social events. The beautiful hardwood floor, wooden wall paneling, 20ft high ceiling and large windows provide a light and spacious background for any gathering. This space is available year-round! For a banquet-style event, the standard set up is 17 table rounds of eight people, to a capacity of 136.

- The Gathering Room:Â Situated on the second floor of the Nechako Housing Commons, Nechako Gathering is a beautiful setting for any meeting, reception or banquet.

The EME (Engineering, Management and Education) Building is the largest on campus at 16,769 square metres, and features an expansive five-storey atrium. This $68-million Gold Seal Standard building was completed in 2012, and is targeted to achieve five out of five points for LEED Innovation in Design for clear-water utilization, education, green housekeeping and green power.
The EME Mezzanine connects the building’s north and south towers, and includes some informal learning space and soft seating. It’s a perfect venue for event registration, small trade shows and casual gatherings.Â

Centrally located, this gorgeous courtyard features a sparkling pond, grassy lawns, and paved surfaces perfect for tenting. It is the ideal spot for an outdoor BBQ or sumptuous summer reception. The Courtyard is located in the centre of campus with access to the Arts, Science, Library and Administration buildings. This space is optimal for informal gatherings, lunches and receptions.Â

UBCO’s foyers and atriums provide the perfect space for receptions, and other event types. All spaces have an open look and feel, with lots of daylight and plenty of space to move around.Â
The EME Foyer, for example, is located on the ‘0’ level, just below the Mezzanine.  There is informal learning furniture on both sides of the space.  This foyer is suitable for cocktail reception, poster sessions, trade-shows, casual dining, casual gatherings, and coffee breaks.

UBCO boasts multiple unique and beautiful outdoor spaces that could be used for events of all kind. From the large wide open grass field of The Commons, to the Amphitheatre and the Arts & Sciences Courtyard, there’s sure to be an outdoor space to meet your event needs. Â

FAQs
Orders can be placed by phone (250-807-8594) or by email.
Minimum order is $75. Deliveries on statutory holidays require a minimum pre-tax order of $200 and may be subject to additional labour charges.
Orders are delivered and set up by our staff.
Delivery is offered seven days a week on UBCO campus, and deliveries over $75 are free. Deliveries are scheduled within a 30-minute window and include equipment pickup if required.
We will accommodate allergies and dietary requirements whenever possible. Please notify us of any dietary requirements as early as possible so we can do our best to accommodate them. We do not have an allergen- or gluten-free kitchen, but we do our utmost to prevent cross-contamination and to communicate information about allergens to our customers.
We are a licensed caterer with the LCLB of BC, offering two types of alcohol service:
- Cash bar – Guests purchase their own drinks with cash, debit or credit.
- Host bar – Client purchases all drinks and is invoiced based on consumption.
Bar service with glassware requires a server in addition to a bartender.
If your event is taking place at an unlicensed facility, your Catering Coordinator will gladly arrange a liquor license for you. A $75 administration fee applies.
Any rentals that your event requires will be expertly handled by Scholar’s Table.
We accept payment by Journal Vouchers (UBC clients only), certified cheques, Visa and MasterCard. The prices listed do not include applicable taxes or gratuities. Your order is GST and gratuity exempt when paying with a Journal Voucher.
